- The 100 Ton Gun nicknamed “The Rock Buster” was build in 1870
- Only 8 built, 4 for the Italian navy, 2 for Malta and 2 for Gibraltar
- Required 35 men to operate the gun
- It took 3 hours to heat the water to operate the hydraulic system
- Ability to fire a 2000lb projectile 8 miles with a penetration of 24.9 inches of wrought iron
- The prime targets were sailing ships
- Due to advances in artillery technology the gun was soon obsolete after being built
- The gun was never fired in anger
