100 Ton Gun

The 100 Ton Gun nicknamed “The Rock Buster” was build in 1870
Only 8 built, 4 for the Italian navy, 2 for Malta and 2 for Gibraltar
Required 35 men to operate the gun
It took 3 hours to heat the water to operate the hydraulic system
Ability to fire a 2000lb projectile 8 miles with a penetration of 24.9 inches of wrought iron
The prime targets were sailing ships
Due to advances in artillery technology the gun was soon obsolete after being built
The gun was never fired in anger
